Cat Power Fails to Grasp the Concept of a Covers Album
1. Cat Power, “Song to Bobbyâ€
The first song to leak from her upcoming covers album is, inexplicably, an original, but it sounds like it could be something off of Dylan’s New Morning. [Shameless Complacency]
2. Duran Duran, “Falling Downâ€
What does it sound like when Justin Timberlake produces a Duran Duran song? Like he’s trying to sound like Timbaland producing a Justin Timberlake song. Also, almost nothing like old-school Duran Duran. [The Beeb Blog]
3. Cam’ron, “Just Usâ€
Like the Sopranos finale, this track from Cam’ron’s new mixtape features a clip from Journey’s “Don’t Stop Believin’,†but its ending is actually quite satisfying. [Mixtapemonster]
4. Party Shank, “Penis vs. Vagina (Lies In Disguise Remix)â€
This track by the London duo Partyshank is heavy and crude, but still considerably more subtle than you might expect given that it’s a song called “Penis vs. Vagina.†[Discodust]
5. The Blood Brothers, “Peacock Skeleton With Crooked Feathersâ€
After ten years of getting screwed by various record labels, Seattle’s greatest experimental hard-core band the Blood Brothers called it quits today. This cut from their 2004 album Curses is a fine example of their peculiar mix of inscrutable lyrics, unhinged shrieks, and surprisingly tuneful hooks. [Indieblogheaven]
