Honestly, ‘Entertainment Weekly,’ Is This the Smartest Man in Hollywood?

We probably don’t need to tell you that Entertainment Weekly’s list of the 50 Smartest People in Hollywood is completely ridiculous — but we will. For one thing, the criterion for the list is very ill-defined, and mainly conflates an ability to earn huge amounts of money with an individual’s level of intelligence. We don’t mean to say that anyone on the list isn’t actually smart, but yikes, are we really going to go along with James Cameron placing third because he was wise enough to abandon his home before it was consumed by a wildfire? Even for a list feature in a magazine, the rankings are incredibly arbitrary, meaning that Sacha Baron Cohen, a man with a degree from the University of Cambridge, is fourteen spots below famed moron Ben Stiller. Also, Judd Apatow is No. 1, and as much as we loved Superbad, that’s just insane. The smartest man in Hollywood is the guy who drew all the penises for Superbad’s end credits, obviously. —Matthew Perpetua
