‘Justice League’ Movie Cast As Cheaply As Possible

Remember back when the Justice League of America movie was first announced, and all the casting gossip focused on big names like Jake Gyllenhaal, Leonardo DiCaprio, Laurence Fishburne, Scarlett Johansson, Mel Gibson, and Bruce Willis? And then things got a bit more reasonable, and word was that Jessica Biel was set to take a role as Wonder Woman? Well, all of those actors were too expensive. Budgetary reality has set in, and now it looks like the biggest star in the movie will be Adam Brody, who’s apparently signed on as the Flash. The casting isn’t yet complete, but various sources have confirmed that rapper Common will play Green Lantern, Friday Night Lights’ Scott Porter will “star†as Superman, and total unknowns Megan Gale and Armie Hammer will fill the roles of Wonder Woman and Batman (respectively). In other words, a D-list cast is set to portray the world’s oldest, most iconic superhero team. If you’re a fan of the comics, you might notice a rather amusing irony: In recent years, DC Comics has played up the notion that the Justice League of America are essentially the A-list of the superhero set, and make all the other, more obscure characters feel like cast of The Hills at an Oscar party. Maybe once this movie comes out, they won’t feel so bad! —Matthew Perpetua
