The New Savior of Sundance Is … Steve Coogan?

This Time It’s Personal: Focus Features acquires worldwide rights to the Andy Fleming–directed satire Hamlet 2, about a high-school drama teacher (Steve Coogan) who tried to save his theater department by mounting a controversial sequel to Hamlet. While this does sound fun, is it fun enough to justify one of the biggest deals in the history of Sundance at a reported $10 million? That’s Little Miss Sunshine money! Or, alternately, Happy, Texas money. [HR]

Blair Kim to Shannon’s Kath: Selma Blair signs on opposite Molly Shannon to star in NBC’s remake of the hit Australian sitcom Kath and Kim. This sitcom already sounds too good for this world. [New Zealand Herald]

Gosling, Dunst Do Good Things: Kirsten Dunst is in talks to star opposite Ryan Gosling in the period murder mystery All Good Things, about the scion of a wealthy family who falls in love with a girl from the wrong side of the tracks. Hard to say which is more jarring: Dunst as a girl from the wrong side of the tracks, or that movies set in the eighties are now “period.� [Variety]

Blind Melon Reborn: Speaking of that “period,� thirteen years after the death of front man Shannon Hoon, Blind Melon returns with its original lineup plus a new singer (Travis Warren) to release For My Friends this April for the Adrenaline label. As Melon isn’t exactly Van Halen, his should make for a significant test of the powers of nostalgia. [Billboard]

Redgrave Seeks Grace: Lynn Redgrave returns to the New York stage next month in the American premiere of Mick Gordon and A.C. Grayling’s Grace as a brilliant, anti-religious professor whose life is upended when her son becomes a priest. That’s a heavy load to carry, but Redgrave should be up to the job. [Playbill]
