Tom Cruise’s Son Is Will Smith, Confusingly
Smith Adopts Cruise: Thirteen-year-old Connor Cruise, adopted son of Tom Cruise and Nicole Kidman, has a teeny-weeny part in the upcoming drama Seven Pounds, playing Will Smith as a young man. The only explanation for such casting is that Jaden must be grounded, a common punishment in the Smith family: no being cute in your dad’s movies for a month. [HR]
Fisher Drinks Deep: Carrie Fisher is aiming for New York by way of a multicity tour of her one-woman show Wishful Drinking. Fisher set box-office records at Berkeley Rep and hopes to repeat the performance in San Jose, Santa Fe, Boston, D.C., and ultimately “an intimate house on Broadway.†An honest and cynical look back at her ridiculous career could be just the kick in the ovaries she needs to find a new audience. Just look at what Priceline.com did for Shatner. [Playbill]
Liotta Reports: Ray Liotta, Anna Faris, and Michael Pena have joined Seth Rogen in Observe and Report. Story centers on a self-important head of mall security (Rogen) who squares off against local police officers. Count on Liotta to bring his cop character the same deep-seeded psychopathic underpinnings that he brings to every performance, including Muppets From Space. [HR]
Zide Feeling Bad, Bad: Producer Warren Zide (American Pie) has picked up the rights to Jim Croce’s No. 1 hit, “Bad, Bad Leroy Brown,†in hopes of “turning it into an action-comedy franchise.†Apparently, Zide cold-called the Croce family, following in the footsteps of his uncle, who failed to close a similar deal 25 years earlier. Zurer’s Guardian Angel: Entertainment Weekly is reporting that Ayelet Zurer (Munich) will play opposite Tom Hanks in the Da Vinci Code prequel, Angels & Demons. One advantage this movie will have over the book? Not making readers turn the book upside down like idiots to read ambigrams. [EW]
