Jon Favreau Gets Chatty About ‘Iron Man’ Sequel

Yesterday, the Los Angeles Times hosted a live moderated chat with Iron Man director Jon Favreau, who was mostly inundated with questions concerning the blockbuster’s sequel, which is currently scheduled for the summer of 2010. Favreau explained that he’s currently working on the film’s script with writer-actor Justin Theroux, and that they have yet to settle on a villain for the picture, though he claims that they have an interesting take on the Mandarin, the armored hero’s arch-nemesis from the comics. The director also comments on the challenges of coordinating the details of his script with other writers working on screenplays for forthcoming films based on Marvel characters, since all of the movies will now be interdependent stories taking place within the same continuity, and feed into the eventual Avengers team-up franchise. The most interesting thing to come out of the chat? Well, that’s either Favreau suggesting that Sam Rockwell may have been a good choice for the Iron Man role had Robert Downey Jr. been unavailable, or that he has an interest in eventually making a sequel to Swingers with Vince Vaughn.
