Getting Live on the Spot: The Beastie Boys announced that their upcoming album, the first since 2007’s instrumental effort The Mix-Up, will be titled Hot Sauce Committee. The trio, which has a slew of festival dates lined up this summer, appeared on Jimmy Fallon last night to talk Hot Sauce and the Check Your Head rerelease and to perform “So Watcha Wantâ€; during their segment, they also mentioned that Hot Sauce will be out sometime in September and that parts of the album were recorded on a submarine inside Paul Allen’s yacht. Buffy’s Back: Fran Rubel Kuzui, the director of the original Buffy the Vampire Slayer movie, is considering a feature remake. Kuzui, who first discovered Joss Whedon’s Buffy script in the early nineties and has held on to the right since, would look to make a film complementary to the TV show but not based on it, meaning Angel, Willow, Xander, and Spike would not be featured and Whedon’s involvement would be uncertain. If Kuzui is looking to avoid the Great Jar Jar Binks Nerd Riots of 1999, we suggest she let him direct. [HR]
Take Umbrage: Roger Donaldson, the director of The Bank Job, will next take on Umbra. The details for this one, described as a paranoid thriller, are hush-hush as well, but, using some advanced research techniques, we’ve discovered that this is totally going to be about murderous shadows. [Variety]
Second Most Exciting Remake News of the Post: The cult eighties sci-fi flick Flight of the Navigator is getting a remake at Disney, with Brad Copeland onboard to write the screenplay. The original revolved around a 12-year-old kid who is abducted by aliens and returns eight years later, the same age; at the same time, a downed alien aircraft has landed on Earth, one that the boy is able to navigate, and NASA attempts to use his powers for their means. Good news — original junior navigator Joey Cramer is available. [HR]
