Frank Langella Dares Cameron Diaz to Push His Button in The Box

Tagline: “An ordinary family whose dreams are slipping away. But tonight, everything will change.â€

Translation: No whammies, no whammies, no whammies, STOP!

The Verdict: We’ve always been suckers for a good morality tale. And director Richard Kelly’s latest project, The Box, looks like it could scratch our itch for the much-ignored genre. The film, based on Richard Matheson’s short story Button, Button, stars Cameron Diaz and James Marsden as a couple that discovers that a mysterious stranger (Frank Langella) with a mysterious scar has left a mysterious box on their mysterious front porch (just kidding, their front porch isn’t the least bit mysterious). Before you go all Brad Pitt in Se7en and start screaming “What’s in the baaahhhx?†at us, we’ll tell you: The box contains a button that, if pressed, will result in the financially challenged couple receiving a lump-sum payment of $1 million, but will also result in the death of a complete stranger. And though we haven’t read the short story or seen the film, we’re guessing one of them presses the button, probably with dire consequences. Because, really, there wouldn’t be much of a movie if they didn’t!
