ranters and ravers

Abbey Road Reconsidered

In November of 1969, Rolling Stone assigned writer Ed Ward a review of the Beatles’ Abbey Road, which came back so negative they ordered a second one from John Mendelsohn, who liked it (both reviews ran in the magazine, though only Mendelsohn’s is on RS’s website). Hilariously, the BBC got both writers together today to ask if they stand by their reviews from 40 years ago. Ward says “Of course not, I was just a 20-year-old kid who was very full of himself.†Mendelsohn has also changed his mind and calls the album’s closing medley “unfinished ideas.†[BBC]
