Why Can’t New York Have the New Justin Timberlake Movie?

Today, Movieline and the Playlist lament the sad fate of the critically acclaimed Justin Timberlake–Jeff Bridges–starring father-son drama The Open Road, which is being rolled out this weekend in a measly fourteen American cities, none of which are New York. Why should the lucky cinephiles in Johnston, Iowa, Bradenton, Florida, and Portland, Texas, be the only ones privy to the film containing Timberlake’s first-ever lead performance, which we expect to be nothing short of masterful? Have we somehow made him feel unwelcome on the small number of occasions he’s visited our city to appear on SNL? Road will still get an Oscar-qualifying release in one Los Angeles theater, though that’s cold comfort for Gotham-based fans of JT’s hilarious acting.
