Rainn Wilson to Marry Liv Tyler, Whack Dudes With Wrench

Super Dwight: Rainn Wilson, Liv Tyler, and Ellen Page have signed on for Super, written and to be directed by James Gunn (he wrote Dawn of the Dead and the two Scooby Doo movies). Wilson plays a guy who develops a wrench-swinging superhero alter-ego, the Crimson Bolt, after his wife (Tyler) falls for a charming drug dealer. Page, maybe, plays the drug dealer? Also, we’re fully aware of the existence of The Rocker, and are excited for this nonetheless. [Variety]

Bridges No Lebowski: In a movie that will surely excite and infuriate in equal measure, Jeff Bridges is in talks to work with the Coen Brothers again — but not as the Dude. The project in question is the brothers’ remake of True Grit, the 1969 John Wayne flick about a 14-year-old girl who tags along with a US Marshall as he tracks down the man who killed her father. Apparently the new version will be more faithful to the book, by Charles Portis — were there maybe more White Russians in the book? [Variety]

Backstage Drama: Abigail Breslin will star in Janie Jones as a young girl abandoned by her mother — a drug-addicted ex-groupie played, of course, by Elizabeth Shue — at a concert, and who tells the aging rock star playing the show (Alessandro Nivola) that she is his daughter. It also stars Frank Whaley and Brittany Snow. Or, you know, you could just listen to the song for an hour and a half. [HR]

Rocking and Eating: IFC has ordered six episodes of Dinner with the Band, a half-hour series in which chef Sam Mason will cook for various acts, interspersed with performances and a chat over the meal. The show, premiering Nov. 24th, will feature Les Savy Fav, Kid Sister and Flosstradamus, Men, Final Fantasy, Yacht and Sharon Jones & the Dap-Kings, and will be shot in a Brooklyn loft. We only have one question — can we come too? [Variety]

Killer Hartnett: Josh Hartnett will star in Gunslinger, a post-apocalyptic revenge flick set in a snowy wasteland. He’ll play a man who, along with his brother, goes after the gang that killed his other brother. Says producer Mark William: “This story takes a unique and startling look at what might happen when the lawlessness of the Old West returns … but with better weapons.†Okay, that actually sounds cool, but here’s our problem — without Googling, would you be able to name three josh Hartnett movies? Seriously, go for it. We’ll give you all day. [HR]
