Noooooooo! According to Variety, last year’s telecast-revolutionizing Oscar emcee (and Vulture hero) Hugh Jackman has officially decided not to return as host for next March’s Academy Awards. Jackman reportedly turned down the gig within the last few weeks because he didn’t want to do it two years in a row, though he’s left open the possibility of hosting again in the future. (After he’s finished with Broadway’s A Steady Rain, says Variety, he’ll take time off before starring in the crazy-sounding Real Steel next year.) We suppose we can understand why he’d be afraid of following his widely acclaimed performance in February, and that he’d probably rather let some hapless non-Jackman (or non-Jackmans, maybe) bomb in March before making his heroic, Oscar-saving return in 2011. Still, this completely ruins our weekend. Relive the glory of his opening number from this year, after the jump.
