Polanski to Finish New Movie From Clink

Roman Polanski’s The Ghost will join C-Murder’s The Truest Shit I Ever Said and those Filipino inmates’ choreographed YouTube dance to “Thriller†in the pantheon of notable artwork completed in prison, says Ghost screenwriter Robert Harris. Though he probably has a few other things on his mind, the director has been advising composer Alexandre Desplat on the film’s score from the Swiss jail where he’s awaiting extradition to the U.S. If all goes as planned, the movie should be finished in time for a scheduled February premiere at the Berlin Film Festival.

According to Harris, “He can make his wishes known from his cell. I don’t think he can make phone calls, but he can communicate.†What people think of the film is another matter. Whether the film can rise above the circumstances in which the director now finds himself I don’t know. We will test to the upper limits the notion that there’s no such thing as bad publicity.†Luckily, Polanski had finished cutting Ghost before his arrest, eliminating the need to bake him a cake with an editing bay in it.
