We’ve seen the nightmare-inducing posters, we’ve seen a brief teaser, but with millions of Americans getting ready to hit the movie theaters this weekend to see Avatar in 3-D, Disney has decided that now’s the time to ramp up the marketing efforts for their own 3-D tentpole picture in March, Tim Burton’s Alice in Wonderland. As expected, the unknown Mia Wasikowska (Alice) takes a backseat to bigger stars Johnny Depp (we’re not sure we’re necessarily down with his foppish accent) and Helena Bonham Carter in this trailer, but the real star of the show is the production design. One could argue that Burton’s ability to put together a film that works on the storytelling and emotional levels has severely diminished over the years, but the trailer shows evidence that he’s still at the top of his game when it comes to rendering stunning visual compositions within the frame.
