While it will still be weeks before we know the official cause of actress Brittany Murphy’s death, more and more details are emerging about how she spent her final days:
• Her husband, sometimes-screenwriter Simon Monjack, has been taking a lot of abuse for being a negative influence on Murphy’s life and career. In an attempt to stem the tide of bad press, he gave an exclusive interview to People in which he explained what they did on her last night alive (they watched screener copies of It’s Complicated, Public Enemies, and The Princess and the Frog in bed), that she had been sick for a few days prior to her death, and that she was not anorexic. He also denied that her death was the result of an overdose of illegal drugs (“I can get rid of that [rumor] right nowâ€). [People]
• That being said, it sure sounds like Monjack and her mother thought that she might have overdosed. According to TMZ, when Murphy’s mother discovered her daughter lying unconscious on the floor of her bathroom, Monjack rushed into the bathroom and “attempted to revive the decedent by placing her in the shower and running the water.†The paramedics who arrived on the scene shortly thereafter found a pharmacy’s worth of prescription medicine in the couple’s home, some of which bore Murphy’s name and others with “unidentified third party names.†Those drugs included: Topamax (anti-seizure meds also to prevent migraines), Methylprednisolone (anti-inflammatory), Fluoxetine (depression med), Klonopin (anxiety med), Carbamazepine (treats diabetes symptoms and is also a bipolar med), Ativan (anxiety med), Vicoprofen (pain reliever), Propranolol (hypertension, used to prevent heart attacks), Biaxin (antibiotic), Hydrocodone (pain med), and miscellaneous vitamins. • The Wrap spoke with an anonymous physical therapist in Los Angeles who allegedly treated Murphy and said that she had “a reputation as a heavy user of cocaine and alcohol.†[Wrap]
• Brittany Murphy’s will was apparently drawn up before her marriage to Monjack. According to TMZ, her entire estate was left to her mother. [TMZ]
