The Times’ Brooks Barnes wonders today if Up could be upset by Wes Anderson’s Fantastic Mr. Fox for the Best Animated Feature Oscar. Citing recent surprise honors for the medium-grossing, respectfully reviewed Fox from both the New York Film Critics Circle and the Los Angeles Film Critics Association, he surmises the movie has the momentum that the blockbusting, better-reviewed Up doesn’t as awards season begins. And surely George Clooney’s delightful introduction (opening line: “I’m, like, Mariah Carey fucked up right nowâ€) for Anderson, who was accepting for Best Animated Film, at last night’s NYFCC awards can only help. Here’s the video, courtesy of Jeffrey Wells (Clooney starts at the twenty-second mark). Enjoy!
