Earlier today, The Sun, that British newspaper that tends to get things wrong, got something wrong! “Spider-Man actor Tobey Maguire is to star in The Hobbit,†the paper announced alongside a creepy photoshop of what Maguire would look like as Bilbo Baggins. It didn’t take long for denials to come pouring in. First TheOneRing.net, a website “Forged by and for fans of JRR Tolkien,†received word from its sources that the The Sun was wrong. Then Harry Knowles of Ain’t It Cool News shot off emails to producer Peter Jackson and director Guillermo Del Toro who both replied in the negative. So as of today, Tobey isn’t Bilbo, which seems like a good move for a guy who is already mistaken for Elijah Wood every time he goes out.
