Both winners of Golden Globe, Criitcs’ Choice, and SAG Awards, The Blind Side’s Sandra Bullock and Crazy Heart’s Jeff Bridges were already fast becoming prohibitive favorites for this year’s Best Actor and Actress Oscars. But with Blind Side’s mostly unanticipated nomination for Best Picture, and a surprising Best Supporting Actress nod for Heart’s Maggie Gyllenhaal, showing better-than-expected Academy support for their films, does this mean Bullock’s and Bridges’s leads over poor Meryl Streep and George Clooney are now even wider? Presumably! And even worse off than Streep and Clooney could be people who like to speculate about Oscar’s acting races, since the other two awards practically already have Mo’Nique’s and Christoph Waltz’s names engraved on them.
