feud for thought

This Week in Rap Beef: R. Kelly Is a ‘Clown-Ass’

We got reconciliations, we got retorts, we got regrets — the hip-hop drama never sleeps!

1. Rick Ross versus Floyd Mayweather
Say What? This spinoff beef (the original was Ross versus Mayweather’s pal 50 Cent) came to a head last month where all good beefs ultimately end up: a Vegas nightclub with a stripper name. But now Ross says it’s all over: “We chopped it up like G’s and after a discussion, we shook hands. So that’s squashed. It’s a new year, it’s time to get new money.â€
The Takeaway: We really weren’t looking forward to having legendary boxer Floyd Mayweather beat Rick Ross to death with his bare hands, so we’re glad this one’s over.

2. Cormega versus Bumpy Knuckles
Say What? Bumpy took shots at his ex-pal on “81 Bars of Murder,†and now Cormega is firing back over Diddy’s “Victory†beat.
The Takeaway: Cormega gets points for conciseness (the track’s only a minute and a half long) and excellent beat selection, but his lines are all weirdly polite or uncomfortably intimate (“It is what it is and I wish him the best / I’ll dismiss it as him venting for feeling depressedâ€). Definitely more appropriate for a personal e-mail message, Mega.

3. Birdman versus R. Kelly
Say What? Way back in 2003, Birdman and R. Kelly were planning a collaborative album called Best of Both Worlds II. It never happened, and Birdman has now taken some time off his busy schedule of sitting in front of us in court rooms to do an interview calling it the biggest business mistake of his career: “Probably the worst investment I did was fuckin’ with R. Kelly. That was a waste of my time. I could’ve made money if I wasn’t fuckin’ with that clown-ass nigga.â€
The Takeaway: Yikes! First Kells has to defend his yodeling, and now his business practices are under fire? Until we see another classy response video, we’re giving Birdman the edge.

Until next week! In the meantime, we’ll be off getting some of that new money.
