David Fincher has been trying to remake the 1981 animated anthology movie Heavy Metal since Benjamin Button wore long pants — and now it looks like it might finally happen! He’d set up the project at Paramount in 2008, but the studio reportedly dropped it over his insistence on an R rating and the inclusion of as much cartoon violence, sex, and nudity as the original. But now Mike Fleming says Fincher’s out shopping a new pitch for a 3-D version of the ten-part film, and that James Cameron has agreed to direct a segment. So even though Zack Snyder is also supposed to direct one, this thing should have a green light by next week.
