Twenty-eight years after the release of the original Tron, we’ve finally got a trailer for the film’s sequel, which is due in theaters in late December. At least on a surface level, the general visual style has aged very well, with modern digital effects adding gloss and depth to classic eighties designs. The 3-D action looks to be as engaging as the design aesthetic is seductive, though the trailer seems a bit dour for a movie that will probably be a lot of dumb fun. It could be that this has something to do with star Jeff Bridges’s recent Oscar win, and this version of the trailer is cut to play up the film’s dramatic gravitas. That said, the only real disappointment here is that we don’t get *more of* a preview of Daft Punk’s highly anticipated score, which is definitely one of the most exciting and interesting aspects of this project. Hopefully we won’t have to wait too long for a fun trailer.
