Surprise, surprise, Avatar has broken another record. The Blu-ray release of James Cameron’s opus sold 1.5 million copies on Tuesday, shattering the one-day record of 600,000 set by The Dark Knight in December 2008. Another 2.5 million DVD copies were sold, giving Avatar the record for single day home-video sales. But not everyone who wanted to own Avatar bought it. In Mexico City 3,409 DVD and Blu-ray copies were stolen off of a delivery truck. That’s probably a record too. [Hero Complex/LA Times]
