Bob Odenkirk’s New Screenplay Is a (Sort of) Update of Annie Hall

Transplendent!

Before anyone gets upset and forgets his or her mantra over the headline, no, Bob Odenkirk (Mr. Show, Breaking Bad) is not making a remake of Annie Hall. Bob Odenkirk would never do that (and hopefully nobody will ever do that). But the comedian/writer/director/actor and one of the most respected men in comedy shared some exciting news about his latest project (still in the development and casting stage) on Marc Maron’s WTF podcast this week.

Bob, after Marc asks him about a phone call he’s just taken about a new project:

“I’m a big fan of Woody Allen’s movies, and it’s kind of it is an homage a bit to Annie Hall, but with a girl as the main character trying to find somebody, and you know it’s different, it’s not a, it’s just I used the tone and structure in a very general way to write this movie, and it’s called Annie Jenkins.â€

Odenkirk explained that he and co-writer Eric Hoffman have cast the lead (although at the time of the conversation he hadn’t told the actress yet), but went on to sound cautious about the project because of the way Hollywood works. Exciting news, though, and we hope it comes together. (By the way, if you have any interest in the comedy business, Marc Maron’s WTF podcast is required listening.)
