This Xtina-Gaga feud is like the “gift†that just keeps on giving. Though Aguilera had been criticized in the past for her dismissive comments about the reigning Queen of Pop, the accusations reached something of a fever pitch after Christina’s extremely “Bad Romanceâ€â€“esque video for the first single from her upcoming Bionic, as well as her recent comment to Out magazine when asked about Gaga: “Oh, the newcomer? I think she’s really fun to look at.â€
In an attempt to defuse the chatter, Aguilera posted a letter on her official website this morning in which she tries to clear the air. Her primary target is the media, as she refers to comments that have been “taken out of context and create unnecessary drama — especially between us women.â€
“So I would like to tell you all directly so my words can not be misconstrued to sell someone else’s story,†she writes. “I have absolutely nothing against Lady Gaga or any other female artist in this business. I think she is great, and I appreciate any woman fearless enough to go against the norm. She has earned her success with hard work and a clear focus and I have nothing but respect for that. There is room for all of us on everyone’s iPods.â€
She closes, “This is not the first time I have been unfairly pitted against another female artist but it will be the last time I comment on the matter.†Ah, the days of Britney vs. Christina … things were so much simpler back then.
