Funny Girl, the hit 1964 Broadway musical that catapulted Barbra Streisand to stardom, will likely have its first Broadway revival in the spring of 2012. The new iteration will be directed by Bartlett Sher (South Pacific) and produced by Bob Boyett, who discussed with the Times the challenges of finding a young actress to take on Streisand’s iconic part of Fanny Brice. Boyett said a “few Hollywood types have expressed interest,†though he is also open to casting an unknown. As for Glee’s Lea Michele, who essentially auditioned for the part when she sang the show’s “Don’t Rain on My Parade†on Glee in December? “I think Lea is wonderful, she’s great, and she would certainly be on anybody’s list,†he said. “She’s also got a pretty good gig going now.†[ArtsBeat/NYT]
