The Public Theater’s production of The Merchant of Venice, currently being performed as part of Shakespeare in the Park, will make the jump to Broadway for a three-month run beginning on October 19. Al Pacino will remain on in his role as Shylock (for which he did some research), and is the only confirmed cast member on board for the Broadway production. (Producers are hoping other members of the current cast, which includes Lily Rabe and Hamish Linklater, will be able to join him.) The play’s director, Daniel Sullivan, told the Times he thought Pacino would be looking forward to the move indoors: “It’ll be nice for him not to have helicopters in this production.†[ArtsBeat/NYT]
