Industry Roundup: Weisz, Law & Order: L.A.

Out To Sea: Rachel Weisz is in advanced talks to star in Terence Davies’ film adaptation of the 1952 play The Deep Blue Sea. Weisz would play a woman who leaves her “companionable husband when she becomes sexually enslaved by an alcoholic ex-fighter pilot.†And if that doesn’t sound wrenching enough, the character also “sticks her head in a gas oven†when said alcoholic ex-fighter pilot walks out on her. Yikes. [Deadline]

City of Angels: NBC’s upcoming Law & Order spinoff, Law & Order: Los Angeles, continues to add cast members. Wanda De Jesus (CSI: Miami) and Regina Hall (Ally McBeal) have landed regular roles on the crime procedural. De Jesus will play a “cool and authoritative captain of the LAPD Robbery Homicide Division,†and Hall will play a “gorgeous and brainy bombshell with a strong sense of moral rectitude.†Sounds like two ladies you don’t want to mess with. [Deadline]

Trio Enter ATM: Brian Geraghty (The Hurt Locker), Josh Peck (The Wackness) and Margarita Levieva (Adventureland) have signed on to ATM, a thriller directed by David Brooks and written by Chris Sparling (Buried). The film follows three co-workers who make a late-night visit to an ATM and end up “in a desperate fight for their lives when they become trapped by an unknown man.†With this and Buried, Sparling seems to really be carving out a niche for himself in the claustrophobic thriller sub-genre. Teen Terror: Josh Hutcherson (The Kids Are All Right) has signed on to both star in an executive produce the teen horror-comedy Detention. The film - which also stars Dane Cook - centers on teens who must survive their final year of high school when a “slasher-movie killer… seemingly comes to life.†The film will be helmed by music video director Joseph Kahn. [Variety]

Solo Animal: Avey Tare (a.k.a Dave Pornter) of Animal Collective is releasing a solo album called Down There. The record is due October 26 and was recorded by fellow Collective member Josh Dibb (a.k.a Deakin). The press release explains Tare’s “favorite animals are the otter and crocodile [and] the latter has played a big role in his newest record.†[Pitchfork]
