Juno Becomes Adult: Jason Reitman and Charlize Theron are in talks to direct and star in, respectively, Young Adult, a script written by Diablo Cody. The project would reunite Reitman and Cody, who teamed up for Juno. The dark comedy follows a “thirtysomething, divorced, young-adult fiction writer†(Theron) who returns to her hometown to try and win back her ex-boyfriend who got away (now married and with kid). Willis and Weaver See Light: Bruce Willis and Sigourney Weaver are in talks to join The Cold Light of Day, a thriller starring Henry Cavill (The Tudors) from director Mabrouk El Mekchri (JCVD). The film follows a young American (Cavill) on vacation in Spain when his family is kidnapped. Willis would play Cavill’s father who “has secrets of his own,†and Weaver would play the villain, in a role originally written for a male actor. How Salt of her! [Deadline]
Cage Flees: Nicolas Cage has pulled out of Trespass, the Joel Schumacher-directed drama due to begin filming in two weeks. Cage was to star opposite Nicole Kidman, originally set to play her husband in a married couple taken hostage by thieves. In recent weeks though, Cage had decided to play the lead kidnapper instead, and Liev Schreiber was offered the husband role (Schreiber hasn’t yet accepted). Cage had been locked into a $7 million deal, and if the project is postponed or killed altogether, there would likely be a lawsuit, Deadline says. [Deadline]
Jordan Takes On Skippy: Neil Jordan is writing and directing an adaptation of Paul Murray’s novel Skippy Dies, a book which follows the “adventures of two unlikely schoolmates, Skippy and Ruprecht,†who attend an Irish private school. Let The Hard Times Roll: MTV has renewed comedy series The Hard Times of RJ Berger for a second season of 12 episodes. Though the show hasn’t posted unbelievable ratings, it has “quietly built audience,†posting a 31 percent increase among 12-34 year-olds in the past four weeks, proving there indeed is an audience for a MTV-ized Hung. Warp Speed: Brian Eno will release an album of new material later this year with Warp Records. Guitarist Leo Abrahams wrote on his blog, “There’s an album out soon by Brian Eno, with myself and Jon Hopkins… It contains the fruits of several years of jams between the three of us.
