Borat to Play Freddie Mercury

Well, here’s something: Sacha Baron Cohen just signed on to play Queen leader Freddie Mercury in a biopic to be scripted by biopic expert Peter Morgan (and produced by GK Films, along with Robert De Niro’s Tribeca Productions). The filmmakers have rights to Queen’s whole catalogue and shooting begins next year. No word yet on whether Cohen will do his own singing, but presumably not. This is actually not the first time the comedian has played the singer. While hosting 2005’s MTV Europe Awards, a leotard-clad Cohen gave Coldplay this introduction: “Hello it is me, Freddie Mercury. I joking, he die of AIDS … The only sex disease I ever have is gonorrhea. Fifteen times! The ladies like Borat! Now please welcome Coldplay.†Anyway, really looking forward to this.
