Mark Wahlberg spent two years in training, then months getting fat, then more months getting skinny to play boxer Micky Ward in David O. Russell’s The Fighter — which seems, at least from this first trailer, to be not too much more than a standard-issue boxing drama. It does look well-done, but surely there must be more to this to have made it worth everybody’s trouble, right? Christian Bale also lost weight (and hair) to play Micky’s screwup half-brother, and even Amy Adams de-glammed a little for her role as Wahlberg’s tough-talking, bar-tending love interest. (Oscars for everybody!) Consider us interested.
