Back in 2008, Hugh Jackman was rumored to be starring in a Broadway musical about the legendary magician Harry Houdini. As if the prospect of Hugh Jackman getting all wet while escaping from a crate and singing wasn’t intriguing enough, two years later it looks like the project is finally going ahead, with a fresh off The Social Network Aaron Sorkin (Aaron Sorkin!!!) writing the book, Danny Elfman composing the score, and Glenn Slater penning the lyrics. Sorkin has Broadway experience: His A Few Good Men was a Broadway play before it was the Jack Nicholson–Tom Cruise movie, and his The Farnsworth Invention was staged there from late 2007 to early 2008. Elfman tells EW that Sorkin is hard at work writing the script, and the musical could go up as early as the beginning of 2012. “He’s writing away,†Elfman says. “We all have high hopes that Aaron’s going to come through and do some good stuff.†As do we! Repeat after me: “A million dollars isn’t cool. You know what’s cool? Escaping from a straitjacket while suspended in midair by your feet.†[PopWatch/EW]
