Pixels, above, is a really cool web short by Patrick Jean from last year in which pixelated characters from old school video games appeared in the real world. It’s like the inverse of Tron! And now it looks like that premise is going to get stretch out to movie-length form, as Adam Sandler and his writing partner Tim Herlihy are set to adapt it to the big screen.
Herlihy, who wrote for SNL during Sandler’s tenure there and then went on to write or co-write Billy Madison, Happy Gilmore, The Wedding Singer, The Waterboy, Big Daddy, and Bedtime Stories, is going to turn Pixels into “a Ghostbusters-style action comedy in which characters come out of a video game to wreak havoc in the real world.†It’s certainly a more interesting premise than the other movies Sandler has been working on lately.
