Cash Money Records’ Bryan “Birdman†Williams is starting a publishing imprint. To be distributed through Simon & Schuster’s Atria Books, Cash Money Content is looking to publish five or six books a year while exploring new models in promotion, including billboards, YouTube videos, and live plugs during Cash Money artist concerts. Says Birdman’s business manager, Vernon Brown: “Our books will also be sold at our concerts. When you’re out in front of 18,000 people, some will buy books, some not. But right now many of those fans aren’t being told what books are great. We’ll do that.†First up: Muhammad Ibn Bashir’s Raw Law: An Urban Guide to Criminal Justice, Wahida Clark’s Justify My Thug, and a rerelease of Iceberg Slim’s Pimp. Scoff if you must, but Vulture chooses to applaud Birdman’s commitment to the written word. [WSJ]
