Focus Features has had a pretty decent 2010 (The Kids Are All Right is an Oscar contender, and The American brought in good coin) and looks to have an even better 2011 on tap (The Eagle and Hanna will make a play for the smart action crowd, with Jane Eyre and the Anne Hathaway-starring One Day there for the romantics). Still, profit margins for specialty film divisions just aren’t enticing enough to major conglomerates these days, and so it is that the LAT reports that Universal is in talks to sell Focus to investor brothers Alec and Tom Gores. The studio denies the report, though one thing is for certain: the Gores are hungry, having entertained purchases of Miramax and Overture over the past year. [LAT]
