The Black List, a list of the best screenplays floating around Hollywood, gets released today. In the past, the scripts on the list haven’t been produced, but not so much anymore. Last year the Jim Henson biopic The Muppet Man topped the list, and the year before it was The Beaver, now starring Mel Gibson. This year it’s the potential Shia LaBeouf vehicle College Republicans, a Wes Jones screenplay about a young Karl Rove’s campaign to head up a college Republican club, run by political consultant Lee Atwater. Rounding out the top ten are a bunch of CIA, FBI, and/or crooked-cop movies, a film about Jackie Kennedy’s life in the days after her husband’s assassination (with Darren Aronofsky maybe attached to directed); a screenplay from Wentworth Miller (yes, that Wentworth Miller) called Stoker, about a teenage girl and her strange uncle; All You Need Is Kill, which has the great, high-concept logline “A new army recruit in a war against aliens finds himself caught in a time loopâ€; and Margin Call, about the last 24 hours of Lehman Brothers, which co-stars Kevin Spacey, Paul Bettany, Zachary Quinto, and Demi Moore and premieres next month at Sundance.
