To Get Springsteen to Guest on Their New Album, the Dropkick Murphys Just Had to Ask

Celtic punk-rock band Dropkick Murphys might seem like an unlikely choice for Bruce Springsteen to collaborate with, but the process sounds like it was surprisingly easy: The band first met Springsteen five years ago when he checked out one of their shows and introduced himself. After recording a rendition of the 1913 song “Peg o’ My Heart†for Going Out in Style, out March 1, the Murphys thought it was so E Street Band–like that they should see if Bruce wanted to contribute: “We were on tour in Australia and we sent him an e-mail. You’d think having to deal with Bruce Springsteen would be this complicated thing. But it was just like ‘want to do it?’ and he was like ‘sure!’†Springsteen’s vocal contributions are now sitting pretty on a Dropkick Murphys album, proving that sometimes all you have to do is ask.
