You expect everything about Jersey Shore to be big (including the fights, the bustlines, and the hair), but could we have expected its ratings to be this big? The MTV reality soap skyrocketed over the course of its first season and came back strong with its second helping, but last night’s Season 3 premiere blew all the previous benchmarks out of the water: After pulling in 8.4 million viewers, it’s now MTV’s biggest broadcast of all time. (It even topped most broadcast shows and tied Grey’s Anatomy in the key adult demographic.) Like American Idol in its heyday, one wonders: does Jersey Shore’s season-to-season growth have any limit?
