Naomi Watts has signed on to star in Clint Eastwood’s latest directorial project, J. Edgar. She’ll play Helen Gandy, J. Edgar Hoover’s longtime secretary, opposite Leonardo DiCaprio’s J. Edgar Hoover. Gandy stayed loyal to Hoover even after his death: In order to protect her former boss, she destroyed some of Hoover’s potentially incriminating files after he passed away. Eastwood will somehow have to find the time to make J. Edgar while he works on wrangling Beyoncé in A Star Is Born. The Gandy role was originally supposed to be played by Charlize Theron. Theron backed out to take on the role of the Evil Queen in Snow White and the Huntsman. [Deadline]
