Looks like Steve Carell’s first post-Office feature will have him doing what he does best: being sweet, and drowning in heart-wrenching despair. Seeking A Friend For The End of The World follows Carell as he travels cross-country with, and likely falls for, Keira Knightley. Meanwhile, humanity grapples with news that a giant asteroid will soon wreck devastation upon the earth. The Office star has several other features in the pipeline, including relationship dramas Crazy. Stupid. Love. and Great Hope Springs, and magician comedy Burt Wonderstone; all three are already in various stages of development. Seeking will have first time director Lorene Scafaria, screenwriter of Nick & Nora’s Infinite Playlist, at the helm. I can already see Carell scrabbling with the glove compartment in a sweaty, verklempt panic as the shadow of a giant space rock blots out the sun. Sounds like my kind of romantic comedy.
