NBC has been doing whatever it takes to get people to tune in to next week’s premiere of new singing competition The Voice, including endless promos, on-air bugs, and countless media interviews. Now the network has decided to mess with the start times of its two biggest late-night franchises — The Tonight Show and Saturday Night Live — in order to sell folks on its wannabe Idol. Next Thursday, Tonight will be delayed by twelve minutes so that NBC can fill that time with an infomercial for The Voice in which coaches Christina Aguilera, Cee Lo Green, Adam Levine, and Blake Shelton perform a new version of Green’s Gnarls Barkley hit “Crazy.†(Clips from the show’s auditions will also be included.) A two-minute version of said promo will also air April 23, bumping back Saturday Night Live by a few minutes. It’s an extraordinary move for NBC and seems to be an acknowledgment that these days, Tonight and SNL are drawing bigger crowds than many NBC shows.
