Michael Bay has found the real culprits behind 9/11: robots. At least, that’s the takeaway from the nervy new Transformers: Dark of the Moon trailer, which fetishizes an American city under siege by Decepticon terrorists, culminating in a shot where a skyscraper, cut in half by a spider-like robot, tips over as innocent civilians plunge to their deaths. In fact, there’s a whole lot of plunging going on here, whether its Decepticons ostentatiously leaping off chasms on the moon, soldiers falling out of a plane, Shia LaBeouf sliding out of that skyscraper, or the perpetually agape Rosie Huntington-Whiteley’s neckline, but there’s also, dare we say it, progress: Several of the shots in the trailer appear to be long takes, an unusual anomaly in Bay’s filmography. Morons of the internet, are you not satisfied?
