Bridesmaids, which was expected to pull in somewhere in the mid-teens, millions-wise, this weekend, has exceeded expectations by pulling in $24.4 million. That’s pretty great news for a movie that cost $32.5 million to produce. To compare to some other big R-rated comedy hits, The 40-Year-Old Virgin opened with a $21.4 million weekend, and The Hangover netted $44.9 million. So while it’s not going to break any records, if it keeps pace through next week it can definitely be considered a hit. Which is, as has been discussed ad nauseum, good news for the future of comedies about ladies. Huzzah!
