OK, so here’s what happened: some dude on Fox News’s Red Eye by the name of Andy Levy made this joke on May 24th: “Supreme Court orders tens of thousands of California prisoners released. This actually may help the Raiders start selling out their home games again.†Because Raiders fans are criminals, you see.
Then, on May 26th, Jay Leno made this joke on The Tonight Show: “Bad news for the state of California. The Supreme Court will force the state to release something like 46,000 convicts because of prison overcrowding. But the good news: It looks like the Oakland Raiders will have more season-ticket holders. Yeah, so the stadium will be packed.†So naturally, Levy and the producers of Red Eye think Leno ripped his joke off.
Hey, Levy: you made an easy, obvious joke, otherwise known as a Leno joke. He did not steal it from you. You think the writers of The Tonight Show stay up all night watching Red Eye looking for jokes to steal? They don’t stay up that late. They are done with work early, because they write easy jokes like that one about criminals being Raiders fans. As judge of this comedy court, I sentence all involved parties to six months of silence, so neither of you can make jokes at all. Let this be a learning experience, one that fosters growth and better humor in the future.
