Jeff Bridges had the rights to Lois Lowry’s YA classic The Giver, lost them — and, just recently, got them back again. Meaning: A big-screen adaptation is now back on, with The House of Sand and Fog’s Vadim Perelman writing the screenplay and Bridges producing as well as starring, as the titular character, a guy who retains all the memories about colors and feelings and stuff for a futuristic highly structured society where things run smoothly but everyone is kind of dead inside. The main character is a young boy named Jonas who, over the course of the book, has to receive the memories and become the new giver. Sounds great, please make this happen! And on an unrelated note: How has no famous NBA point guard ever been nicknamed the Giver? [Variety via /Film]
