It’s the day Charlene has been dreading since the mid-to-late ‘80s. Stephen Colbert and Jack White performed on the Highline in NYC last Friday, joined by White’s Morticia-Adams-looking proteges the Black Belles. In addition to signing autographs and generally rocking out, the duo sold the 7†of Colbert’s troubling ode to blimp-based stalking “Charlene (I’m Right Behind You),†as well as the follow-up that has everyone ogling from their own sycamore tree, “Charlene II (I’m Over You).†Colbert and White also harmonized for the National Anthem, which wasn’t particularly unsettling, unless you count the fact that Grammy award-winner White got completely blown out of the water by Colbert’s mellifluous baritone.
