This summer has already seen a few superhero flicks — Warner Bros.’ Green Lantern and Fox’s X-Men: First Class — but Captain America: The First Avenger (made by Marvel and Disney) looks set to lead the pack with an expected $65 million-plus take at the box office opening weekend. Also noteworthy is that Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 2 saw its domestic earnings plummet 72 percent since its record-breaking open last week. True, the movie has already pulled in close to $700 million worldwide, but if it proves to have little staying power past the initial hype, maybe we won’t have a billion-dollar blockbuster this year after all.
