Spike Lee has groused recently that it’s harder than ever for him to get financing for a narrative film (it’s what sunk his proposed sequel to Inside Man), but if reports are true, he may be lining up a comeback. Twitch reports that Lee is currently in talks to direct a remake of Oldboy, Park Chan-Wook’s 2003 South Korean revenge film. The dark, propulsive source material was once being developed by Steven Spielberg with Will Smith set to star, but with Spielberg long gone and Smith mostly committed to his children’s projects at the moment, it’s possible that Lee might have his own fresh take. (Whether it will retain the octopus-gobbling and incest present in Park’s version is another matter, however.) [Twitch]
