After over 49 years of vetting, Decca Records is taking a chance on rising talent Paul McCartney. The label, which famously passed up a chance to sign the Beatles in 1962 because it felt “guitar groups [were] on the way out,†will release a recording of McCartney’s upcoming ballet, “Ocean’s Kingdom,†on October 3. (The show itself premieres at the New York City Ballet on September 22.) Will this be enough to make up for all the cash lost over the course of five McCartneyless decades? Well, earlier this year, the musician described the project as “Basically a romantic story about a couple from opposite worlds — an ocean kingdom, which represents purity, and an earth kingdom, which represents darkness and evil.†That sounds a lot like “Yellow Submarine†to us!
