The trailer for Kevin Spacey’s emotional rebirth dramedy The Father of Invention covers every conceivable narrative beat of the film: infomercial fame, jail time, the smocky-vest of retail shame, a scornful ex, and a hopeful daughter. Plus a scraggly Cast Away beard and an against-type Johnny Knoxville! That’s a pretty compelling cast, but the Unfrozen Caveman Lawyer shtick about not knowing how the contemporary world works gets old really fast, and the stench of “from the director of Larry the Cable Guy: Health Inspector†is tough to ignore. More important, it’s time for Craig Robinson to be getting better, more interesting, and different roles. [Movieline]
