If you’re not familiar with the plot of Terence Rattigan’s 1952 play, the beautiful but brief trailer for Deep Blue Sea (not to be confused with the 1999 LL Cool J film) won’t give you too many clues. Clearly, Rachel Weisz, who’s borrowed her wardrobe and discontented facial expressions from season one Betty Draper, is having some marital issues. From there, one has to figure that Simon Russell Beale is her equally unhappy, much-older husband, though he looks more like a therapist to Vulture’s eyes. And then the handsome Tom Hiddleston shows up: first to pose stoically with a giant silver tea set (or maybe that’s the Wimbledon trophy?) and then to yell: “I was the one who wanted to wait for the divorce. You didn’t.†A-ha! So Weisz has been sneaking around with the tennis champ. Given the extended, agonized Weisz close-ups and the voice-over warning (“Beware of passion, it always leads to something uglyâ€), it’s safe to assume the affair doesn’t end well; but remember, this could have ended with vicious, genetically engineered sharks eating everyone in sight. At least Weisz’s tears are very pretty.
